海外名师授课系列课堂之Soil Mechanics的开课通知

为加强研究生课程建设,推进研究生教育国际化进程,提升师资国际化水平,学校设立研究生“海外名师全英文授课项目”,课程教学采用“海外名师+校内教师”模式,全英文授课,由海外名师主讲,校内教师协助完成授课任务。课程面向全校研究生,学生选修该课程学分可折算为学术活动学分(按20学时折算1学分),课程成绩将计入研究生选修课学分。

上课时间:5月27日-5月31日上午1-4节

上课地点:本部东院,雁博园4楼,第二报告厅

外教介绍:Rifat Bulut教授,美国俄克拉荷马州立大学土木与环境工程学院终身教授,其研究领域包括非饱和土力学,土壤和土工材料在水-热耦合作用下的力学性质,可变形多孔介质中的多相流动和传输现象等。Rifat Bulut教授近来承担美国交通部等多项高影响力科研项目;近年来主编出版Soil Behavior and Geomechanics(ISBN 978-0-7844-1337-1)等岩土体力学理论与实践应用教材与专著,发表高引用专业论文百余篇;同时担任Springer 出版集团下属the Institution of Engineers (India) Series-A Journalsthe KSCE Journal of Civil EngineeringInternational Journal of Pavements等多个高影响因为国际专业期刊主编;且常年为Sustainable Civil InfrastructuresCanadian Geotechnical JournalInternational Journal of Pavement Research and TechnologyASCE Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering Journal等数十个高影响因子国际土木工程专业期刊担任审稿人;同时Rifat Bulut教授是美国土木工程协会非饱和土专业委员会等多个专业委员会常任委员。

课程介绍 (Course Objectives):

1. To identify the various physical properties of soils that affect their engineering behavior, and to learn how these properties are related to the behavior of different soils.

2. To learn and understand the methods of engineering characterization used to describe physical properties of soils and the intended use of the characterizations in engineering practice.

3. To understand the theory behind and procedures for various standardized laboratory tests used to determine engineering characterization values for soils.

4. To learn and understand the theories and methods for applying measured physical properties to characterize and solve geotechnical engineering problems such as water flow, settlement, shear strength, and lateral earth pressures.

- Plasticity and Atterberg Limits

- Soil Compaction Concepts

第2天(5月28日): Flow of Water through Soils and Effective Stress Concept

- Principles of Fluid Mechanics

- One-Dimensional Flow

- Flow Net Solution for Two-Dimensional Flow

- Effective Stress Concept

- Induced Vertical Stresses in Soils

第3天(5月29日): Compressibility and Settlement

- Consolidation Concept

- Consolidation Test

- Consolidation Settlement Predictions

- Rate of Consolidation

第4天(5月30日): Shear Strength of Soils

- Shear Failure in Soils

- Mohr-Coulomb Failure Criteria

- Shear Strength Evaluation

第5天(5月31日): Earth Retaining Walls and Lateral Earth Pressures

- Basic Concepts

- Rankine’s Earth Pressure Theory
